Fancy A Drink: The World’s Swankiest Watering Holes

For the “Spirit World” today is monumental; and no, I am not referring to ghosts and goblins. The list of The World’s 50 Best Bars will be announced at a live ceremony in London and will be streamed on social media channels. The location for the awards couldn’t be more appropriate because London is the pinnacle for the swanky, cocktail bars such as my personal favorites, American Bar, Lyaness, Duke’s, and last year’s winner the Connaught Bar. Tayēr + Elementary may not be as posh, yet I have to throw them in the “mix” because they have one of the most phenomenal and creative cocktail programs I have ever experienced.

Having made a huge dent in the list and my liver I am happy to share some of my favorite watering whole from around the world where elegant and fashionable attire is not required yet warranted if you want to complement the refined cocktails.

Manhattan Bar (Singapore)

There is a reason this bar is always on the World’s Best Bars list. Excellent service, elevated cocktails, and beautiful interior. The cherry on top is one of the best brunches I have ever experienced!

The American Bar (London)

Inside the Savoy Hotel in London, you will find the World’s most sophisticated bar. The legendary American Bar is the holy grail for cocktail connoisseurs and has been at the top of virtually every ‘best of’ list. If you cannot snag a seat, The Beaufort Bar inside the hotel is equally fabulous.

The Aviary (Chicago)

What do you get when a culinary genius creates a cocktail bar in the city of Chicago, where tales from the Prohibition-era continue to thrive? The Aviary, like Alinea, is a menagerie of tastes, smells, and theatrics that is unrivaled by any other cocktail bar. Plus, their beautiful cocktail books would be a welcome addition to your home bar or coffee table.

Bar Crenn (San Francisco)

The icon and belle of the World’s Best Restaurant scene opened Bar Crenn with the same quality, style, and care as Atelier Crenn. This jewel is a rarity because of the blending of Michelin level lite bites and wine in a cozy Parisian setting!

Lyaness (London)

During its previous incantation (Dandelyan) I had the pleasure of trying this truly innovative mixology and botanical program. Let me tell you the sequel is just as good as the original! The high quality of the drinks, décor, and hospitality were not lost during the reinvention of this London jewel. Visionary is typically not a word I would use to describe a bar, yet it is fitting for Lyaness!

Hotel Le Bristol (Paris)

The bar inside of this 5‑star hotel does not disappoint. Live music, cocktails and light bites sets the scene for a magical Parisien night.

The Connaught (London)

The bar inside the 5‑star Connaught is stunning. Plus, the table side martini service is a perfect respite from running those London streets.

Sirr Bar (Amman, Jordan)

Yes Sirr! Tucked away inside the 5-star Four Season Hotel in Amman is a small, surprise that is big on ambiance, service, and classic cocktails. Enter through the purple door for a royal experience.

Dukes Bar (London)

Rumor has it this bar inspired the James Bond’s vodka martini. As the former watering hole for the franchise creator, Dukes Bar serves all of the 007 vibes. The table side martini service does not skimp on the spirits. The most potent cocktails I have experienced to date!

Gold On 27 (Dubai)

Everything in Dubai is opulent and grand, so of course it is only fitting that the 27th floor of Dubai’s iconic Burj Al Arab hotel there is a sublimely decorated bar with breathtaking views.

Vol. 39 (Chicago)

Situated inside the Kimpton Hotel in Chicago’s Financial District is a cozy and sophisticated bar with divine (and strong) martini flights.

Stay thirsty my friends!
